Bariatric Surgery

When it comes to severe obesity, traditional weight loss methods -- diets, weight loss pills, exercise programs – just don’t work for most people. Bariatric surgery is recognized by the American Heart Association and the American College of Surgeons and endorsed by the National Institutes of Health as a safe way to help people lose weight, and minimize or even eliminate diabetes and hypertension, sometimes within months.

If you're more than 100 pounds overweight and have tried and failed to lose weight, or if you suffer from obesity-related health problems such as heart disease, diabetes or sleep apnea, joint disease or infertility, contact The Center for Advanced Bariatric Surgery at Overlook Hospital.  Named a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, our program has a history of excellent patient outcomes.  Join us for a seminar on bariatric surgery and learn what our program has to offer you.

We ensure bariatric surgery patients feel safe and comfortable throughout the process.  Our program features:

  • State-of-the-art operating room with high definition monitors and cameras
  • Expert, dedicated nursing and ancillary staff specially trained in the sensitive care of the bariatric patient
  • A dedicated operating room team for bariatrics – anesthesiologists, scrub nurses, technicians and facilitators – specifically trained to care for and operate on bariatric patients
  • Appropriately sized hospital gowns and beds
  • Private patient rooms designed with the safety and comfort needs of the bariatric patient in mind
  • Patient Vision, a unique multi-media communication device that enables patients to search the Internet, watch television, answer email, and read bariatric patient education modules
  • A comprehensive testing program that confines most, if not all, patient testing within a single 24-hour period
