Palliative Care

The Palliative Care Team at Morristown Memorial Hospital focuses on enhancing the quality of life for patients. Palliative care services are appropriate for patients with severe or life-threatening illnesses. In conjunction with all other appropriate medical treatment, we also provide support in the management of pain and symptoms, and offer spiritual and psychosocial support for our patients and their families.  We give special attention to your comfort and dignity, and we honor your values and preferences.

Our Palliative Care Team provides an interdisciplinary approach and offers a wide range of services that include:

  • Expert management of pain
  • Management of other symptoms such as breathlessness, nausea and anxiety
  • Attention to emotional and spiritual needs
  • Help in setting goals for care
  • Guidance in making complex treatment choices
  • Coordination with other health care providers, including: primary care physician, oncologists, neurologists, surgeons, cardiologists, nutritionists and physical therapists
  • When appropriate, transition to hospice services to improve quality of life at home, in the nursing home or a hospice facility
  • Bereavement support, including services offered by Atlantic Home Care and Hospice
